Taxi drivers in Stoke-on Trent have staged a demo outside the towns main railway station to protest against the decision to ban them from using the toilet facilities.

Drivers say that the new station official told them they can no longer use the station toilets on the platforms, which has left them with the only option to use the toilets nearby in the North Stafford Hotel.

But the cabbies feel that they should be allowed access to the stations facilities because they pay £300-a-year for a permit to ply for hire at the station.

Stoke-on-Trent cab drivers have been using these facilities for more than 30 years without any issues, so decided to stage a protest to show their discontent.

The cabbies believe that they should be treated no differently to the stations staff and be granted access to the toilets, with some drivers even stressing that those with kidney problems need easy access for toilet breaks for health reasons.

One driver who has worked the station rank for more than 10 years told StokeonTrent Live, that because he is a diabetic he needs to use the toilet more often than most and said that it would be a ten mile round trip if he was forced to drive home every time.

The protest has seemed to of worked because Virgin Trains has apologised for the confusion and granted the drivers the same access to the station toilets as they had previously.

One of the biggest problems for many taxi drivers across the UK is restroom facilities. Whether its because of lack of toilets or parking issues, many cabbies struggle to find suitable locations for regular toilet breaks.

Holding in urine on a regular basis can lead to medical complications. It’s important to build relationships with those who are able to grant access to their facilities so to avoid such problems in the future.

Which city or town to you work in? Do you have easy access to restroom facilities? If not, have you approached your licensing authority to discuss how the problem can be solved?

Nine taxi drivers have been caught picking up shoppers illegally in Manchester city centre.

The operation — called Operation Aztec — was carried out by Manchester City Council’s Licensing Team alongside Greater Manchester Police.

Plain clothed officers posing as shoppers approached parked taxis and asked them for a ride they had not booked in advance.

It is illegal for private hire taxis to accept fares which are not booked in advance. Only Hackney Carriages (black cabs) with the correct license are permitted to undertake such journeys.

The taxi drivers were intercepted by marked police cars upon acceptance of payment and their cars were inspected. The drivers were also interviewed and warned that they could be liable for prosecution.

During the operation, a driver was found to have been driving without insurance. Their vehicle was seized and impounded by Greater Manchester police.

Drivers found guilty of operating illegally can face having their taxi licenses revoked by their licensing authority, and a hefty fine of up £7,500. They can also have between six to eight penalty points added to their driving license.

In the past two years, 66 cases have been pursued after a private hire driver was found to have illegally picked up passengers.

Sergeant Paul Lenarcic from GMP’s Safer Roads Targeting Team said: “Intercepting nine vehicles during Operation Aztec is a positive result for the partnership alongside Manchester City Council and we hope to see this continue as we carry on the operation in our joint bid to crack down on unlicensed and uninsured taxis.”

Councillor Rabnawaz Akbar, Executive Member for Neighbourhoods, who went out with officers during Operation Aztec, warned that passengers put themselves at risk if they use unbooked vehicles.

Akbar said: “I saw many people putting themselves at risk by getting into an un-booked vehicle. When they do that they are not insured in the event of an accident, there will be no record of a journey having taken place and the driver cannot be tracked.

“The number of drivers caught during just one night of action should serve as a warning to others who think they can get away with illegally activity. They should be in no doubt that if they are caught, the council will take them to court.”

Cab driver may lose his licence after he allegedly posted ads on "Fab Guys" gay hook-up website offering sex in his Taxi.
A taxi driver from Dundee is at risk of having his licence revoked after he allegedly posted “kinky” X-rated pictures of himself showing his badge on a gay hook-up website.

The unnamed 52-year-old boasted on his ad that he could be found at the rank by Dundee Railway Station and stated that he prefers “quick meets, either outdoors or in my taxi’.

The driver who is now being investigated by Dundee City Council claims to know nothing about the website, but a complaint made by a member of public has meant the council has had no choice but to pass it over to Police Scotland.

According to the Scottish Sun, a spokesperson for Police Scotland has confirmed that if no criminality has taken place, the matter will be referred back to the council for them to make a decision regarding the driver’s licence.

They added that all allegations passed to them are investigated and dealt with appropriately.

This is the moment a man "racially abuses" taxi drivers in Hull city centre.

The exchange happened in the early hours of the morning outside Hull Paragon Interchange. A taxi driver who was there at the time filmed this footage, shown below.

The man, who does not want to be named, said the "racist" man was calling the taxi drivers "cowards" and telling them to "go back" to their own country.

"The gentleman who was abusing the taxi drivers, he came to get a taxi," the man said. "It is the rules from the council that if you feel somebody is a bit too drunk or looks dodgy to you, you can ask for money upfront. When the driver asked for money upfront from the gentleman, he said he didn’t have any money.

"So the driver said it’s OK you don’t have money, you aren’t going far away, I will drop you off. But while he was talking, he wet his jeans. He peed on his pants when he was talking.

The taxi driver said 'I will take you without money that’s fine but I cannot carry you because you have peed yourself and there will be loads of people who will be sitting on the seat so sorry I cannot carry you'.
"So because of this he started abusing all of them racially."

The taxi driver, who is 27, said the police were called. "Everybody was really calm as you can see on the video," he said. "Everybody was calm, not reacting

"He came to punch three of the drivers and he was constantly abusing.

"One of the guys who was passing the station, as you can see on the video, a black gentleman, he thought the guy was abusing him. He tried to throw a punch on him but we stopped him and said don’t fight with him he’s too drunk.

"Later we called the police. The police came and went to speak to the guy and came back to us and said obviously he is out of control but he is too drunk as well.

"Do you want to press charges against him? If you want to press charges against him then we will arrest him. Otherwise we will let him off.

"Some of the drivers said we don’t want to press charges just take him away from here so the coppers took him away."

The taxi driver says he has lived in Hull for about eight or nine years and has been a taxi driver for about four. He says the man was shouting at all of the taxi drivers there that night.

The exchange happened in the early hours of the morning outside Hull Paragon Interchange. A taxi driver who was there at the time filmed this footage, shown below.

The taxi driver who filmed the footage last week is from Bangladesh. He said he did not react, only filming what was happening in case it was needed for evidence.

"We are trained to tolerate this kind of stuff," he said. "Nobody was reacting.

Two teenage robbers have been locked up after luring taxi drivers to Black Country housing estates and threatening them with knives and fake guns.
Tyreece Clarke carried out six robberies in 10 days, calling taxi drivers and a delivery driver before threatening them with a knife or imitation firearm.
For two of the robberies Clarke was joined by a 16-year-old, who stabbed a driver in one incident but cannot be named for legal reasons.
On April 12 the pair called a taxi driver to the Lion Farm estate in Oldbury and demanded money before the younger defendant stabbed the driver twice in the chest, Wolverhampton Crown Court heard.
Judge Amjad Nawaz said: "You could not know what injury you were going to cause, it could have resulted in death, but you were willing to take that chance.
"The driver hadn't realised he'd been injured, he just thought he'd been punched.
"Only when he got out and was seen by others he realised he was bleeding.
"The two blows entered his chest cavity, there was blood in his lungs and he was in hospital for some time.
The psychological aspect is that he will never overcome it."

Delivery driver attack

Later on the same evening, the pair ordered food to be delivered from a different address on the same estate.
When the delivery driver arrived he was accosted by the pair who were both armed with knives, the court heard.
The teenagers pushed the driver against a wall, punched him, threatened him with a knife, searched his pockets and stole the food he thought he was delivering.
The man escaped without being seriously injured.
Ten days earlier, Clarke had called another taxi driver to Tantany, in West Bromwich, where he pointed an imitation pistol at his head.
Judge Nawaz said: "He is no longer able to work nights as a consequence of that, it's left a long-lasting psychological impact."
Clarke also carried out a robbery in West Bromwich town centre by the bus station.

Guilty

Clarke, of Newhall Street, West Bromwich, pleaded guilty to two robbery charges and was found guilty by a jury of four robbery charges, possessing an imitation firearm and three charges of possessing a bladed article.
He was acquitted of wounding with intent.
The younger defendant pleaded guilty to one robbery charge and one charge of possessing a bladed article, while he was found guilty by a jury of robbery, wounding with intent and a second charge of possessing a bladed article.
He was acquitted of two robbery charges, possessing a bladed article and possessing an imitation firearm.
Clarke was sentenced to 12 years in custody by Judge Nawaz, while the 16-year-old was handed five years and four months.
Judge Nawaz said: "The offences show an element of planning and predetermination.
"Each of the defendants were vulnerable as they were performing a duty by attending a call.
"They could not know and would not be expected to know that they would be subject to a robbery when they arrived."

Social media 'lifts' are becoming an 'illegal industry'
"Doing lifts" is the phenomena of using social media to buy and sell car journeys in an online illegal "taxi" service.

More than 7,000 people are members of a closed group in Bournemouth, Dorset, the equivalent of a third of the town's student population.

Once people are accepted into the group they can use their own cars to make money by charging for lifts in what taxi drivers in the town are calling an "illegal industry".

Drivers and passengers in the group are unlikely to have had background checks or training, pay no fees and are therefore unlicensed and uninsured.

Bournemouth Borough Council said it was aware of the group and is taking the situation "very seriously".
